MANAGER – OCCUPATIONAL DISEASES (×1)

A. JOB PURPOSE

The Manager – Occupational Diseases assess the client in all functional domains, consult with other stakeholders, then design and implement an effective, goal-oriented rehabilitation program, build a rehabilitation team who can support the client’s recovery in their home, community, and workplace as well as assess any suitable re-deployment into an alternative job.

B. JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

• Meet with client at intake, in the hospital prior to discharge, in their home, or on their worksite; utilize specialized occupational therapy knowledge and skills to assess for activities of daily living skills, needs, productivity, and leisure
• Research, develop, deliver and supervise implementation of goal-oriented rehabilitation programs, including the full or partial restoration of daily activities and living skills, and leisure and return to work activities for individuals living with occupational injuries/diseases.
• Consult with family members and other healthcare professionals involved on the client’s rehab team, as needed, from initial assessment through to discharge.
• Provide on-going management and analysis of a client’s progress towards the rehabilitation goals.
• Document all relevant clinical data and discharge reports on the timelines required by the Board.
• Provide supervision, education, and support to Unregulated Support Personnel, such as Therapy Assistants, according to the needs of the client.
• Actively participate in inter-disciplinary meetings to share best practices and generate creative solutions.
• Engage in professional development opportunities appropriate to clinical practice in the field of Occupational Therapy.
• Ensure that the practice of Occupational Therapy is conducted in accordance with the regulatory bodies
• Understand and comply with the legal requirements of licensure, legislation, scope of practice, and policies and procedures of the Board.
• Protect the individual’s beliefs and values and the right to confidentiality, privacy, respect and dignity.

C. JOB REQUIREMENTS

Candidates must have the following:
• Grade Twelve (12) School Certificate.
• Degree in Medicine (MBChB) or equivalent.
• Masters Degree in any field.
• At least five (5) years’ work experience in Middle or Senior Management position.
• Member of the Zambia Medical Association (ZMA)
• Registered with the Health Professions Council of Zambia (HPCZ)
• Analytical and problem solving skills involving the identification of problems, analysis of information, formulation of workable solutions and the recommendation of appropriate solution(s).
• Communication skills of a high standard, both verbally and in writing, including proficiency in the English language and the effective presentation of information.

A. JOB PURPOSE

The Assistant Manager – Rehabilitation and Counseling will help people with occupational disabilities live independently. He will work with clients to overcome or manage the personal, social, or psychological effects of disabilities on employment or independent living.
B. JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

• Rehabilitates pensioners through counseling, establishing their training and material needs in order to restore them to pre- accident state.
• Supplies and maintains artificial limbs, hearing, walking and mobility aids so as to restore them to pre- accident state.
• Processes and pays constant attendance allowances to paraplegic pensioners as nursing care in order to cushion negative financial impact.
• Receives, analyses and recommends applications for commutations of pension to pensioners for management’s approval in order to expedite the disbursements of money to pensioners.

• Supervises the preparation of various documents relating to pensioners’ vocational rehabilitation needs by providing requisite guidelines/ instructions and checking all work carried out, to ensure optimum efficiency and strict compliance to the provisions of the Workers’ Compensation Act.
• Trains, develops and motivate subordinates so as to enable them acquire knowledge and skills in line with the Board’s manpower needs.

B. JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

• To provide claim forms to certified employees by the Occupational Health & Safety Institute (OHSI) for completion by the employees and employers.
• To give guidance on how to complete the forms and advise on the necessary documents required to accompany the forms.
• To check and scrutinize the information on the completed claim forms and ascertain whether information is reliable for further processing by Manager-Occupational Diseases.
• To open files for new claims and submit the files to the Manager-Occupational Diseases for further verification and rating of the degree of disability of the employee.
• To ensure missing information on the claim forms and other required documents are collected.
• To ensure accurate and timely input of new cases on the pension administration system (PAS)
• To receive and analyze tickets and other relevant documents received from pensioners who come for their annual check-ups and effect payment for their transport and ration
• To effectively and accurately maintain records of the following:

(i) New certifications received from OHSI are entered in an out-going register.
(ii) Claim forms issued out to be completed by employees and employers are entered in an in-coming register.
(iii) Compiled cases and opened files for submission to the Manager-ROHS and Doctors at OHSI are also recorded showing actual dates for their movements at every stage of action.
(iv) Payments records are made and maintained for all payments on the petty cash.
• To compile petty cash payments and submit to Head office for reimbursement.
• To provide routine and requested reports to the Manager-Occupational Health.
